HaDerech Part One: Identifying a Mental Health Crisis
Being familiar with the basic definitions of the challenges people face is the first and potentially most critical step to overcoming those challenges. This includes understanding what things like a mental health crisis, addiction, substance abuse, behavioral disorders, mood disorders, panic attacks and more actually are. You simply can’t face a challenge you don’t understand.
In the first section of “HaDerech,” we have included the Blue Dove Foundation’s updated “Mental Health Glossary,” complete with common and central mental health terms and definitions and a guide to how to talk about mental health concerns most sensitively and effectively. We encourage you to continue to learn and explore mental health terminology so you can provide powerful, loving and informed support to yourself and your loved ones.
Upcoming Mental Health Awareness Month Event from the Blue Dove Foundation:
Voices of Resilience | Join us on May 15, 2024 8:00 p.m. EDT/5:00 p.m. PDT to hear the moving stories of an educator, therapist and Jewish proffesional, whose families faced mental health and/or substance use challenges with strength and resilience. What supported them through their ordeal? Which resources did they turn to? How did they and their children heal and grow? Witness firsthand their journey of healing and growth, each having navigated through their own crises and offering unique perspectives.
Mental Health Awareness Month Workbook
Judaism isn’t just a religion of laws; rather, it is a religion of ideas and experiences, all aimed at cultivating a healthy and sound mind, body, and soul for all of its practitioners. Our goal is to explore them, reveal the deep messages hidden within, and shed some light on how one can utilize them to live a healthier and happier life with this four-week Jewish guide through Mental Health Awareness Month. Each week, we will focus on a Jewish approach to a different aspect of mental wellness and then engage in activities to help make mental health a bigger part of your life, along with some of our best resources relevant to each week.
