Resources for Mental Health Awareness Month
The Blue Dove Foundation provides mental health education through a Jewish lens
This May, remember Tikkun Olam AND Tikkun HaNefesh.
For Mental Health Awareness Month 2025, Mental Health America (MHA) is focusing on the ways we can take action for the mental well-being of ourselves and our community. The leading national nonprofit dedicated to promoting mental health and well-being, MHA has created the Mental Health Month Action Guide with two sections. Take action for yourself is a DIY plan that emphasizes the need to take care of ourselves. Setting boundaries, reaching out for support and practicing self-care can help us build resilience, manage challenges and thrive. By learning to care for ourselves, it’s easier to care for and support others.
Take action for all promotes action through advocacy. It provides tools for reaching out to legislators, terms to know, steps to becoming an advocate and a call to join MHA’s advocacy network. MHA believes change happens when everyday people take small steps toward a healthier, more supportive world.
This dichotomy perfectly reflects the balance between caring for the world, Tikkun Olam, and caring for the self, Tikkun HaNefesh, we should all strive for. Hillel eloquently summed it up in the Ethics of our Forefathers, “If I am not for myself, who will be for me? If I am only for myself, what am I? And if not now, when?” (Pirkei Avot 1:14)
